Smart shopping in virtual store

tesco homeplus opened a virtual grocery store in a south korea subway station, where users shop by scanning QR codes on their smartphones in a campaign designed by the seoul branch of advertising agency cheil, tesco homeplus supermarket opened last fall a virtual grocery store in a south korea subway station, permitting users to shop using their smartphones. a large, wall-length billboard was installed in the station, designed to look like a series of supermarket shelves and displaying images and prices of a range of common products. each sign also includes a QR code. users scan the code of any product they would like to purchase, thereby adding it to their online shopping cart. after the web transaction is completed, the products are delivered to the user’s home within the day. the strategy makes productive use of commuters’ waiting time, while simultaneously saving shoppers time spent going to the supermarket.

Technology will save us

    London-based creative studio technology will save us have developed a ‘DIY gamer kit’ for learning how to program video games using arduino and custom software. the unit takes about two hours to solder and fully assemble, complete with all the components and instructions needed to build a custom handheld game console from scratch. the design mimics the classic gaming controls of nintendo’s original game boy, equipped with a 8 x 8 LED matrix display, four buttons and a small speaker. depending on the user’s programming skill set, the kit allows you to add music to your projects, or sync up to other gamers for multi-player action. to learn more on the project, see here.

with the engineers of KUKA ( keller und knappich augsburg) and the professional support of table tennis professionals, agilus – the world’s fastest robot – was programmed in order to withstand a match against table tennis champion timo boll, who sits ranked at number 5 in the world. the angles, strategies and probabilities of the match moves were all well elaborated in cooperation with the director, the opponent timo boll and with KUKA. filmed by matthias zentner and produced by velvet mediendesign, the commercial for robot manufacturer KUKA was conceived at the set of an abandoned sport hall in sofia, bulgaria. Alongside the new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung is expanding its line of wearable technology to include a fitness tracker. The new Gear Fit is a downsized version of its smartwatch siblings, with a focus on tracking your heart rate and counting your steps. It looks like a Samsung version of the popular wrist-worn Fitbit trackers, but with a larger screen and quite a few more functions. The display on the Gear Fit is the real draw: it's a rectangular, curved AMOLED touchscreen panel with characteristic-for-Samsung vibrant colors and exceptionally wide viewing angles. The curve in the display allows the Fit to conform around your wrist yet still have a large enough screen to make text readable and buttons easy to press with your finger.
